Perennial Grazing Shrubs: vertical real estate to help livestock, land and livelihoods
Koojan-Gillingarra LCDC Field Day,
Organized by the Northern Agricultural Catchment Council, May 2015
Can we remove the term ‘marginal’ when describing parts of the farming landscape?
Perhaps we can if we use forage plants that suit the challenging environments we have to work with.
This presentation drew on a decade of research from across Australia, including WA, in the ‘Enrich’ project, which was coordinated through the Future Farm Industries Co-operative Research Centre. Dean discussed options for adding hardy, perennial plants to the feed base of a farm, and showed how using grazing management can achieve profitable production – not only in difficult areas of a farm but also in ways that benefit the whole-farm system.
